I put here some french cakes. Some of them are regional specialities, sometimes it's pretty hard to find inside Paris. In France, We have 2 kind of Bakers ; place where you buy bread ("Boulangerie"), And places where you can buy cakes (Patisserie). Mostly, bakeries do both.
Religieuse au chocolat : My advice : avoid to buy one if there are few chocolate one the first part cake.
My favorite "Patisserie" (Cake).
Note : an other kind of "Religieuse au chocolat" exist : Eclair au chocolat. Nothing change except shapes.
If one looks like this, please DON'T buy (Not really good, trust me)
"Pain au chocolat" and "Croissant"Very Famous in France and in the world. You can put what you wish in the croissant, like jams, nutella... They are better when they just get out of haven (warm and crunchy <3 )
Croissant :
Pain au chocolat :
NEVER buy ones like this !
Price : About 1 E (1.5 A$) (normally it's under 1E)
CrepesNot really original, but so good
Remark : 2 kind of "crepes" exist, one using sugar, and the second one with salt, called "Crepes salées" (many recipes). You can find lots of restaurant in Paris near the Montparnasse tower. It's quite famous to drink a glass of cider (Cidre in french) ; an apple alcohol, about 5 degrees(not so high, like beer).
MeringueA very soft pastry, made from eggs and a bit of sugar. It's crunchy and melt after on your tongue.
Price : About 1 E (1.5 A$)
Paris-BrestIt looks like a bike wheel. Not really light, but sometimes...
Profiterole au chocolat Usually, you eat it in a restaurant (due to melted chocolat)
Mille-feuille Invented in 1651, this cake consist in pieces of pastry superimposed with cream between. Differents favour exist.
Fraisier What can I add ? just delicious !
Tarte tatin A special pie ! The legend say that originally, it was a mistake. Indeed, she was cooked back to front, which enabled to discover this original sort of pie ! We use only apple to cook it. It's a dessert from brittany, so it can be pretty hard to find one in Paris....
I've just realized they are too many desserts in France ! Some cakes are home-made, and specific to some bakery, but I tkink mostly the taste depend of the bakers know-how.
Just for fun, some cakes you can buy (I don't have the name of each...)
